This is not Li Guoyao¡¯s unfounded worry. The Central Army of the Nationalist Government has done a lot of things like annexing miscellaneous armies. The Hunan Army, the Guizhou Army, the Yunnan Army, the Northwest Army, and the Sichuan Army all have such examples.

But the most intuitive example is the Northeastern Army where Li Guoyao was serving. Chiang Kai-shek used this method to the fullest in his treatment of the Northeastern Army, which also made Li Guoyao quite wary of it.

Everyone has seen the strength of the Northeastern Army before entering the Pass. The 300,000-strong army is unambiguous at all. Even Chiang Kai-shek's Central Army and Yan Laoxi's Shanxi-Sui Army may not be able to compare with the Northeastern Army.

However, after the Xi'an Incident, the Marshal was placed under house arrest, and the Northeastern Army gradually split. First, the Young Zhuang Faction assassinated Wang Yizhe, the No. 2 figure in the Northeast Army, and then killed Xu Fang, Song Xueli, Jiang Bin and others. Wang Yizhe's troops killed the Young Zhuang Faction Gao Fuyuan and others.

After the outbreak of the Anti-Japanese War, the Northeastern Army, which was divided and vendetta against each other, was transferred to various theaters in batches and then divided and used. As for the reason, everyone knows that this is the National Government's trick to divide the Northeastern Army.

Because the Northeast Army suffered heavy losses at this time, the Nationalist Government reorganized it. After reorganization, only 6 armies were left in the Northeast Army.  They are the 49th Army, the 51st Army, the 53rd Army, the 57th Army, the 67th Army, and the 2nd Cavalry Army.

And each army was reduced from the original A-type army to B-type army, and the strength and number were suddenly reduced by one-third!

Even so, the Nationalist Government still did not let go of this army, and divided and recruited the remaining six armies and completely eliminated them!

??Among them, the 49th Army was an earlier army formed by the Northeast Army. This unit was transferred to the Songhu battlefield in 1937. After several battles, more than half of the troops were killed or injured.

Although the National Government replenished the 49th Army, the newly added Pre-5th Division did not obey the command. At the most critical moment of the battle, all four Huangpu clique commanders took leave, putting the former Northeastern Army generals on the fire.

After the defeat in the Battle of Xiushui in 1939, Chiang Kai-shek took the opportunity to severely punish the 49th Army. Lieutenant General Liu Duoquan was demoted to colonel commander, the deputy army commander and chief of general staff were transferred, and the two division commanders were dismissed. Soon the 49th Army  The army changed from the Northeast Army to Chiang Kai-shek's army.

Compared with the 49th Army, the fate of the 67th Army was even more miserable. Since the 67th Army was the direct descendant of the Marshal, and its commander Wu Keren was a confidant of the Marshal, he was always busy with the Marshal's affairs, so he was regarded as  A thorn in the flesh.

If it were not for Li Guoyao's cheating existence, after the Battle of Songjiang, the 67th Army would have eight commanders including Army Commander Wu Keren, Army Chief of Staff Wu Tonggang, Division Chief of Staff Deng Yuzhuo, 322 Brigade Commander Liu Qiwen, 321 Brigade Commanders Zhu Zhirong and Wang Xirui.  The regiment leader died heroically for his country, the 67th Army suffered all casualties, and the remaining troops were absorbed by the Central Army.

The same goes for the 51st Army. In the Battle of Xuzhou, the 51st Army fought bloody battles in Bengbu and Linhuaiguan, and had a head-to-head confrontation with 40,000 Japanese troops, resulting in more than 7,000 casualties. After the defeat in the battle, the 51st Army covered the retreat of the Central Army and finally broke out of the encirclement.  The 51st Army fought fiercely with the Japanese army in the Wuhan Battle for several months, and then entered the Dabie Mountains to fight guerrillas. After the victory of the Anti-Japanese War, it was reduced to the 51st Division.

After the July 7th Incident, the 53rd Army exchanged fire with the Japanese army in Peiping and suffered heavy losses. It was forced to go to the Taihang Mountains to fight guerrillas, and later participated in the Battle of Wuhan.

The 57th Army participated in the Battle of Nanjing and the Battle of Xuzhou and suffered heavy losses. In 1942, the division commander Chang Enduo and the brigade commander Wan Yi of the 57th Army mutinied and surrendered to the Eighth Route Army.

After the September 18th Incident, the Northeastern Army was scolded for not resisting the war for six years. In order to clear its name on the anti-Japanese battlefield, the Northeastern Army almost preferred death to retreat, and the fighting was extremely brutal.

Because they suffered heavy casualties, they were either eaten by the Central Army, or were supplemented by people who were not from the Northeast and lost the blood of the Northeast Army, so the Northeast Army was almost forgotten on the anti-Japanese battlefield.

Now Chiang Kai-shek still wants to use this method to swallow up his 61st Army. How could Li Guoyao give him this opportunity? That's why Li Guoyao clings to the position of temporary commander of the 7th Division.

¡°He will never hand over this position related to the command of the army before he has a trusted successor.

Li Guoyao did not announce the final personnel appointments at this meeting because he still needed to talk to Wang Zhanhai, Xu Hu and others about some issues.

¡°After all, the current composition of the 61st Army is very mixed. In addition to the Northeastern Army and the Hunan Army, there are also a large number of central troops, as well as some bandits. Of course, there are also some people from the Red Party.

Any decision Li Guoyao makes now may affect the future development of the army, so he must be cautious.

In the following time, Li Guoyao talked about the future tasks of the troops. Since the Japanese army suffered heavy losses this time, more than 40,000 people only withdrew more than 10,000 people to Chu County. Therefore, the Japanese army should not launch another attack on Bengbu in a short period of time.

Therefore, the 61st Army should have no combat missions in the near future.?So the main task of the troops is to restore combat effectiveness. Before new personnel appointments are issued, all the troops have to do is seize the time to rest and recuperate.

At the same time, all troops must also try their best to restore their strength, whether it is through deception or coercion, as long as they can attract troops!

In addition, the troops must also strengthen their vigilance and mobilize the masses to build fortifications before the Japanese army attacks.

After discussing a relatively complete plan, Li Guoyao ordered the meeting to be adjourned!

After the meeting, Li Guoyao retained Wang Zhanhai, Xu Hu and Ma Desheng. He needed to seek the opinions of these confidants on some matters!

After ordering the special forces to strengthen the surrounding vigilance, Li Guoyao said in a deep voice: "Whatever you think about the personnel appointments of the army, we are all brothers. You can say whatever you want, there is no need to hide it!"

Wang Zhanhai thought for a while and said: "Shangfeng suddenly upgraded our army to the B-type army. I feel uneasy at the conclusion. I think it is right for the military commander to concurrently serve as the temporary commander of the seventh division!"

Li Guoyao nodded, then turned to Xu Hu and asked, "Old Xu, what do you mean?"

"We still don't know what Shangfeng is planning, but the upgrade of the A Division to the B Army should bring more benefits than disadvantages to us. What I'm worried about now is that the Military Commission will now add some sand to our army!" Xu Hu said.

"Old Xu, are you talking about Liang Chenghu, Liu Wei, Qi Zhiguo and others?" Li Guoyao asked in a deep voice.

"Yes! These people are all from the central department, plus Chen Zhiyang, Hou Zhifu and others are also graduates of Whampoa Military Academy. Once these people unite, they can control at least one-third of our army." Xu Hu said.

"I'm not afraid of them controlling the troops, as long as they fight the Japanese! After all, my main purpose in raising the troops is to fight the Japanese, not to become a fat-minded warlord. I'm just afraid that these people are just fighting for power and excluding dissidents!" Li Guoyao said  .

"Well, this is also what I'm worried about. Our army is now in danger of attracting wind. I don't know how many people want to bite a piece of meat from us. We have to guard against everyone!" Xu Hu said.

"So we must unify our thoughts. From now on, division-level combat units must be controlled by ourselves, and people from the Central Army must not be touched!" Li Guoyao said.

"What about the brigade-level troops?" Ma Desheng asked.

"At the brigade level, we can let it go appropriately, but for the time being, officers from the Central Army can only serve as deputy brigade commanders, such as Qi Zhiguo and Liang Chenghu. Both of them have made great contributions in this battle, so they can be allowed to serve as deputy brigade commanders.  "Li Guoyao said.

"I think it's okay. Let's try them first. As long as you can fight the Japanese with peace of mind, you can mention it later!" Xu Hu said.

"Then it's settled. Let's take a closer look at who will serve as the commander of these brigades. By the way, the deputy commander of the 7th Division must also be carefully considered"
