Beginning on the morning of May 29, the Japanese Independent Third Brigade launched 11 large-scale attacks on the defending positions, each time with more troops dispatched, and even a large number of fighter planes were mobilized for coordinated operations.

However, Guide City, garrisoned by Li Guoyao's troops, is still as solid as a rock and unmoving!

The battle started at seven o'clock in the morning and ended at eight o'clock in the evening. The forward position was covered with a thick layer of Japanese corpses, numbering no less than 3,000. Together with the injured Japanese soldiers, the Japanese Third Brigade was  More than 5,000 soldiers were lost, accounting for almost two-thirds of the total force.

It can be said that in just one day, the Suzuki Brigade was crippled, but it still failed to capture the defender's forward position.

This result shocked all the Japanese commanders, and even Nakajima Kongo, who only wanted to watch the joke, found it incredible.

Nakajima had already seen that the Suzuki Brigade was going to suffer, but he thought that after only one day, the Suzuki Brigade would suffer casualties of one or two thousand people at most, which would be like teaching these guys with eyes on their foreheads a lesson!

But what he didn¡¯t expect was that more than 3,000 soldiers from Suzuki¡¯s brigade were killed that day. This made Lieutenant General Nakajima vaguely regretful that he did not remind or even stop that idiot Major General Suzuki.

The main reason why Nakajima sat on the sidelines during the daytime battle was because he had a problem with the Kwantung Army, and among the top brass of the Japanese army, there were many people who had such thoughts.

The reason is also very simple, because what the Kwantung Army did was a bit excessive, which not only caused dissatisfaction among most soldiers in the country, but even the royal family also had opinions on the Kwantung Army.

The rise of the Eastern Army was inseparable from the September 18th Incident. It was precisely because of this incident that the Kwantung Army was formed. In this battle, hundreds of thousands of Chinese troops retreated into the Kwantung Pass. More than one million square kilometers of land were surrendered, and more than 30 million civilians were surrendered.  The people who became a subjugated country shocked the world and the whole country was in an uproar.

For Japan, this battle easily obtained a colony three times the size of Japan's mainland. It also further strengthened Japan's control of the Korean Peninsula, and its domestic mainland policy was verified and practiced.

But what many people don¡¯t know is that the Japanese central government has always been in a passive position regarding this invasion of China, which was launched by middle and lower-level officers and secretly supported by the military. The Japanese government¡¯s ability to restrain the military has been greatly reduced.

To this day, people know that Japan¡¯s invasion of China is an established national policy, but they still don¡¯t know much about Japan¡¯s behavior of ¡°lower than above¡± in specific incidents, and this is where the weirdness of history lies.

In fact, looking at the entire incident, on the one hand, Japan has a cabinet resolution of "no expansion", but on the other hand, it is the continuous advancement of the Japanese army.  Is this a diplomatic tactic or a real contradiction?

It should be believed that the Japanese cabinet still intends to stop the Kwantung Army's actions.  Long before the incident, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs had noticed that the Kwantung Army was conducting intense exercises day and night.  The consul in Fengtian, Lin Jiujiro, gave a detailed report on the dangerous situation in Manchuria and asked the government to pay attention.

After receiving the report, Foreign Minister Shimohara discussed with Prime Minister Nanjiro and sent Major General Takekawa to Manchuria to persuade the Kwantung Army to "respect themselves".  After learning that Jianchuan had come to dissuade Ishihara, Itagaki and others, they did not terminate the plan, but stepped up their actions.

Jianchuan arrived in Fengtian on September 18. When the generals of the Kwantung Army were entertaining Jianchuan, the Liutiao Lake explosion occurred. Zhang Xueliang's Peking Camp had been attacked by the Shimamoto Brigade, and the September 18th Incident broke out.

Another incident that showed that the Japanese government had lost control of its military and land was the North Korean garrison's disobedience to cross the Yalu River to support the Kwantung Army.  The total number of Japanese troops in Manchuria is only 10,400, that is, 5,000 stationed divisions, about 5,400 troops in 6 independent garrison brigades, and more than 20 guns.

By comparison, Zhang Xueliang had 250,000 regular troops, 80,000 irregular troops, and 260 guns.  Ishihara's plan to monopolize Manchuria could never be accomplished with only 10,400 troops.

Therefore, on the day of the incident, the Kwantung Army called the commander of the Korean Army, Hayashi Juro, for support. Hayashi Juro immediately ordered 5 infantry brigades, 1 squadron of cavalry, 2 brigades of artillery, and 1 squadron of engineers to form a temporary mixed brigade and go to Manchuria.  .

However, the Japanese army soon received a telegram from the central government requesting to stop dispatching troops, so the troops only gathered near Sinuiju and did not dispatch.  However, soon after, the commander of the troops stationed in Korea, Lin Xianjuro, ordered the mixed brigade to continue advancing and rush reinforcements, blatantly disobeying the central government's orders.

In wars between nations, such instances are rare.  The incident conspired by middle- and lower-level military officers finally made the Japanese cabinet government helpless and succumbed to their actions. This kind of thing is unimaginable in other countries.

After the September 18th Incident, the Kwantung Army became increasingly arrogant. As the army continued to expand, the ambitions of the Kwantung Army gradually became larger, and sometimes they even ignored Emperor Hirohito.

In the years after the establishment of the puppet Manchukuo, the Kwantung Army repeatedly tried to take advantage of its victory to attack China, but was finally stopped by the Emperor.  Over time, Emperor Hirohito was just a decoration in the eyes of the Kwantung Army. He only talked about it every day and never did anything practical.

Therefore, the Kwantung Army has quite a lot of opinions about the Emperor and the top and bottom of the base camp. The Kwantung Army even has the intention of establishing an independent country and breaking away from the control of the Emperor.

Of course, this matter could not be hidden from the top Japanese officials. Because of this, the emperor and the domestic Japanese generals did not have much favorable impressions of the Kwantung Army. Therefore, after the China Incident broke out, the emperor directly ordered the Kwantung Army to mobilize some soldiers to go south to participate in the war. Among them, the most famous  It was the Chahar Dispatch Corps commanded by Lieutenant General Hideki Tojo, Chief of Staff of the Kwantung Army.

Ordering the Kwantung Army to go south was certainly based on war considerations, but more importantly, the emperor was too afraid of the Kwantung Army, so he wanted to weaken the Kwantung Army's strength through this method.

Therefore, after Chahar sent the troops southward, the base camp detached several independent brigades and went southward, which greatly weakened the strength of the Kwantung Army.

Most people don't know these things, but Lieutenant General Nakajima knew it very well. Therefore, when the Suzuki brigade threatened to take Guide alone, he did not stop it. He even hoped in his heart that the national army in the city could teach them a lesson.  These arrogant guys.

But Lieutenant General Nakajima did not expect that the combat effectiveness of the Chinese army in the city was so terrifying, and they almost crippled the Suzuki Brigade in one day.

However, the thought of regret only flashed by. Lieutenant General Nakajima was even more fortunate that it was not his 16th Division that participated in the attack during the day. With the strong combat power shown by that army, even if their 16th Division was in charge  As for the main attack, the situation will not be much better than the current Suzuki Brigade.

It is better to be a dead fellow Taoist than to be a poor Taoist. Based on this idea, Lieutenant General Nakajima quickly drove away all the guilt in his heart.

Although Lieutenant General Nakajima did not feel much guilt towards the Suzuki Brigade, his hatred for the defenders of Guide City continued unabated.

No matter how annoying the Kwantung Army is, it is still an elite force of the Empire of Japan. Now it is beaten to a semi-disabled state in this little-known small town. This is a slap in the face of the Empire of Japan, and it is also a disgrace to the Imperial Army of Japan.  Honor trampled upon and insulted.

As a soldier, Lieutenant General Nakajima felt the deep malice and incomparable anger. Therefore, after the Suzuki Brigade stopped attacking, Lieutenant General Nakajima immediately ordered his officers and soldiers to go into battle immediately. He wanted to attack the city overnight.

According to Lieutenant General Nakajima, after this day's battle, the consumption of the city's defenders must be beyond imagination. At this time, the defenders' soldiers, ammunition, and morale have dropped to the extreme. This is a good opportunity to pick up the slack.  .

But is that really the case?

Really, just as the main force of the Japanese 16th Division was gathering outside the city, Li Guoyao was frowning at the headquarters in the city.

Although the 61st Army repelled the Japanese attack after a day of bloody fighting, its own losses were beyond imagination. According to the casualties reported by each unit after 6 o'clock, the day's battle directly resulted in the death of more than 3,600 people in the 61st Army.  2,200 people were injured, and the total number of casualties was 5,800, accounting for almost two-fifths of the total strength of the national army on the German front.

Li Guoyao had never thought of such heavy casualties before. Although two-thirds of the troops stationed in Guide were supplementary troops sent by the Military Commission, their combat effectiveness was not weak after the increased firepower, but he never thought that there would be nearly 6,000 troops in one day.  People have lost their fighting ability.

If this continues, the more than 13,000 of them can barely hold on for two or three days. The situation on the front line directly made Li Guoyao feel the crisis.

However, before Li Guoyao could come up with a countermeasure, he heard the combat staff hurriedly come in to report that the Japanese army had launched another attack!  (Remember the website address: www.hlnovel.com
