Because Li Guoyao's troops unexpectedly captured Lu'an City and directly blocked the logistics base of the Japanese Second Army, serious problems occurred in the Japanese logistics supply lines of the four divisions on the northern front, and the Second Army had to stop its westward advance.

When the news came, the Fifth War Zone Commander¡¯s Department and the Wuhan Military Commission were overjoyed!

The current situation on the battlefield is actually not good for the national army. Although the battle on the Nanxun Line ended with the annihilation of the Japanese 106th Division, the main force of Okamura Ningji's 11th Army still captured it after strengthening its forces.  Went to Jiujiang City and were resting in Jiujiang at this time.

Shortly after the Battle of Mount Fujin began, Okamura Ningji's troops continued to launch attacks to the west, because Zhang Fakui's 2nd Corps to the west of Jiujiang relied on the mountainous areas to resist, and took advantage of the Yangtze River's high water season to dig up the river embankments and let the river water flow into Sai.  Lake and Chihu to prevent the enemy from attacking along the river.  The Japanese troops advanced along Jiangxi to the Wuguishan area east of Ruichang County Pier and were immediately stopped.

The Japanese 15th Division and the 9th Division also encountered strong resistance from Xue Yue's 1st Corps in the mountains south of Jiujiang. When they reached Ma'anshan and the pass area, they were unable to advance.

The river-tracing force of the 12th Marine Corps fought twice with the Chinese Navy on the Yangtze River outside Jiujiang and then continued westward. Its main task is to 100% ensure the smooth flow of the Yangtze River waterway, because this is the most important supply line for the army, absolutely  Nothing can go wrong.

However, due to the slow progress of the 11th Army, the Japanese Navy's river troops did not dare to advance rashly.

In Jiangbei, when Inaba Shiro's 6th Division attacked Guangji, they used Ushijima Mitsuru's 33rd Brigade along the road and Imamura Katsuharu's 11th Brigade south of the road, in parallel from Jinzhongpu and Dahe.  Pu, Shuangchengyi and Jingzhupu attacked westward.

This deployment with the Yangtze River on its back is mainly due to the fact that the Chinese army has a large number of blocking troops in the Dabie Mountains to the north. Many of these troops have very strong combat capabilities and have caused huge losses to the Japanese army many times. Therefore, in order to prevent these troops from attacking the Japanese army,  Huangguang Highway carried out a horizontal attack.

The most important thing is that the 6th Division had received intelligence before setting off that the 5th Theater Command would launch an attack from the southern foot of the Dabie Mountains, so it was particularly cautious in its actions.

Huangmei is about 30 kilometers away from Guangji. After the Japanese army began to attack, they were successively attacked from the front and side by Qin Lianfang's 84th Army, Zhang Yichun's 48th Army, and Peng Chengfu's 44th Army. The casualties were heavy. After 8 days,  After eight nights of fighting, Guangji was finally captured at the end of September.

On average, they advance about 4 kilometers per day. After arriving in Guangji, they no longer have the ability to attack, that is, they build fortifications, set up multiple layers of barbed wire and obstacles, and bury mines for defense and rest, and wait for the recruitment of new soldiers.

During this period, Li Pinxian's 4th Corps, Wei Yunsong's 31st Army, and Zhang Gan's 7th Army in the 5th Theater counterattacked Guangji. However, due to the lack of heavy weapons, they only caused great damage to the enemy, but failed to recapture Guangji.  Jicheng.

After the 6th Division rested in Guangji for half a month, in mid-October, Imamura Katsuharu's 11th Brigade set out from Guangji and cooperated with its navy in the Yangtze River to attack the Tianjia Town Fortress, about 30 kilometers southeast of Guangji.  .

Tianjia Town is located in a narrow spot on the north bank of the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River, about 40 kilometers southwest of Wuxue City. It is 65 kilometers away from Jiujiang and 150 kilometers away from Wuhan. It forms an angle with Banbi Mountain and Fuchikou Fortress in Yangxin County on the other side.  The gateway to Gan and the throat into Wuhan.

The Tianjia Town Fortress has a dangerous terrain and is very similar to the Jiangyin Fortress in a sense.  The broad Yangtze River flows here. When it reaches the waters of Tianjia Town, the Yangtze River suddenly narrows. The river here is only 600 meters wide.

According to records, "Tianjia Town is located in the north of the Yangtze River, and the mountains are steep. The mountains in the south of the Yangtze River are called half walls, and they are fighting on three sides. At the foot of the mountain is Fuchikou, and the river flows around the mountain from north to east, so we go to Tianjia Town to avoid turbulence." Local folk songs also say that Tianjia Town crosses the river.  It only takes 18 oars to get there.

As early as the late Qing Dynasty, the Taiping Army and the Qing Army successively built fortresses and forts here.  Even in 1853, 1854, and 1855, Hong Xiuquan led the Taiping Army and fought fierce battles with Zeng Guofan's Hunan Army here for three consecutive years, which shows how important the geographical location of this place is.

At present, the Chinese navy is basically destroyed, and the air force is much weaker than the Japanese army. To prevent the Japanese army from advancing westward, it can only rely on river defense artillery and mines.

Therefore, Tianjia Town, together with Banbishan and Fuchi on the other side, constitute Wuhan¡¯s last line of defense. It can be seen that the importance of Tianjia Town Fortress is self-evident.

"Seizing this throat can effectively block the river, and it is also an important node in blocking the Japanese army's westward advance.

Therefore, the Chinese defenders attached great importance to the strategic position of Tianjia Town Fortress and mobilized a large number of troops.

In terms of land defense, the Nationalist Government mobilized five divisions to set up two deep defense lines along the river.  As for Jiang defense, 7,200 artillery troops were mobilized to station on both sides of the Yangtze River. Even before the war, the countryThe Nationalist Government also sent Chief of Staff Bai Chongxi to personally inspect the Tianjia Town Fortress for inspection and supervision.

Regarding the importance of the Tianjia Town Fortress, the Japanese commander Okamura Neiji, who once served as a military adviser to Sun Chuanfang, knew best. He believed that as long as the Tianjia Town Fortress was captured, he would be only one step away from occupying Wuhan.

Therefore, after the Sixth Division captured Guangji, it was ordered to continue southward and attack the Tianjia Town Fortress.

Under the order of Okamura Neiji, the Japanese army divided into two land routes to the south and north of the Yangtze River, as well as the Yangtze River waterway, and advanced on three sides.

On the Yangtze River North Road, the 11th Brigade of the 6th Division Imamura Katsuharu set out from Guangji and began to attack the Tianjia Town Fortress on the north bank of the Yangtze River.

On the south bank of the Yangtze River, the Japanese 9th Division and other troops were also advancing with difficulty towards Fuchikou and Banbishan Fortress on the other side of Tianjia Town.

At the same time, the 12th Team of the 3rd Fleet of the Japanese army advancing along the Yangtze River also made an all-out advance, trying to break through the Yangtze River blockade of the Chinese army and directly land and attack the Tianjia Town fortress group in order to bypass the large number of solid positions set up by the Chinese army on land.

On October 15, the Japanese 9th Division attacked Fuchikou. Li Fangchen of the 18th Division of the Chinese 54th Army was responsible for the defense of Fuchikou. Ma Ji, commander of the 562nd Brigade of the 193rd Division of the 98th Army, led 7,200 people to garrison Banbishan Fortress.

Due to the ferocious enemy force, the defenders had no choice but to fight to the death. Before the war, the entire brigade officers and soldiers swore that they were willing to live or die with Banbishan.

The battle was very fierce. During the period, the Chinese defenders retreated several times, but the Japanese army continued to increase artillery attacks.

On October 18, the Japanese army failed to attack Zhupo Mountain and focused its main firepower on Jilong Mountain.

Li Fangchen was worried that he could not withstand the attack and led his troops to retreat to Zhupo Mountain, which resulted in the reduction of the defensive area along the river and increased the defensive pressure on fortresses such as Fuchikou and Banbishan.

Then, the Japanese army began to storm the positions of the 54th and 13th Chinese armies in Huangqiao and Poshan in Yangxin territory, occupying Fenglin and Mugang.  Then, the Japanese army used the navy and the main force of the 15th Division as a force upstream. Under the cover of aircraft and warships, they attacked Fuchi and Banbishan fortresses along the south of the Yangtze River.

On October 23, Li Fangchen led a small number of officers and soldiers to flee before the battle, leaving the army leaderless. Fuchi fell the next day.

The fall of Fuchikou posed a great threat to Banbishan and the Tianjia Town fortress in Jiangbei. Due to the high terrain of Fuchikou, the Japanese army installed artillery emplacements on high ground, completely exposing the Tianjia Town fort to Japanese artillery fire.

On October 27, the Japanese army, with the cooperation of the navy and air force, attacked the main position of Tianjia Town Fortress from three directions.  Among them, the main fire support came from Japanese warships on the Yangtze River.

In order to attack the Tianjia Town Fortress, the Japanese Navy used all its strength. In addition to the large number of river warships of the 12th Squadron, there were also more than 40 warships concentrated on the front line. The total number of Japanese warships participating in the battle was more than 50, with hundreds of heavy guns.

On the 28th, more than 1,000 Japanese Marines and more than 20 motorboats, under the cover of aircraft and warships, launched another crazy attack on Tianjia Town.  The officers and soldiers of the Chinese naval artillery team fired fiercely at the Japanese troops with machine guns and submachine guns, repelling Japanese attacks again and again.

Japanese naval bombers, in groups of 3 to 5, took turns bombing the Tianjia Town fort, and all the main fortifications were destroyed.  At 7 o'clock that night, the Japanese army launched a general attack on the Tianjia Town fort. The two sides once again started a fierce battle, and the officers and soldiers of the Chinese naval artillery team suffered heavy casualties.

At this point, all communications between the fort and the outside world were interrupted, and ammunition was exhausted.

That night, Li Yannian ordered the Tianjia Town Fortress to be abandoned, blew up the remaining three artillery pieces, and was forced to retreat.

At 3 a.m. on the 29th, Tianjia Town fell.

?Then the Japanese army concentrated their forces to storm the Banbishan Fortress. Although the Banbishan Fortress is still in the hands of the Chinese defenders, it has become an isolated stronghold and its fall is almost certain.

From the overall battle situation, although the Chinese army has some achievements outside Wuhan, they are relatively scattered and do not change the overall battle situation much.

"Especially after the capture of important towns such as Jiujiang City, Tianjia Town Fortress and Gushi County, the Japanese army has been eyeing Wuhan City with multiple armies, and the pressure on the Military Commission has increased sharply.

But no one expected that at this critical point in time, Li Guoyao's troops would launch a surprise attack and unexpectedly destroy the logistics base of the Japanese Second Army. As a result, the Second Army not only could not continue to advance westward, but also had to find a way to return reinforcements.  The eastern front greatly slowed down the progress of the Japanese army.

However, everyone, including Chairman Chiang, was worried about the safety of Li Guoyao's troops. After all, the entire western Anhui and northern Anhui were now occupied by the Japanese. Once the Japanese army returned to Lu'an, the 61st Army might be occupied.  The Japanese army made dumplings, and the consequences were unpredictable!  (Remember the website address: www.hlnovel.com
