The Japanese army continued to move south, putting huge pressure on the national army on the southern front, especially for Lu Zhonglin!

After receiving the telegram from Li Guoyao, he knew that the Japs must have been eyeing Jinan again, but he did not expect that the Japs would be so fast!

It took less than five days to defeat the Eighth Route Army headquarters, eight counties and the army, and that was it. The combat effectiveness displayed by the Japanese army was too great to look directly at!

At this time, Lu Zhonglin finally understood why Li Guoyao asked him to send troops to help immediately. If the little devils were allowed to eat up the Eighth Route Army in southern Hebei, then without the restraint of the Eighth Route Army, the Japanese army would definitely be able to attack without any worries.  The national army's defense zone.

Although the Japs are also heading south now, because many Eighth Route Army troops have broken through, the focus of the Japanese attack is still on the Eighth Route Army side, which gives the Chinese army a lot of time to prepare.

But Lu Zhonglin also understood that if the Japanese army was really determined to go south to attack the National Military District, their current situation seemed to have little chance of winning.

After thinking about it again and again, Lu Zhonglin ordered his troops to actively prepare for war, and at the same time, he sent a report to Chongqing, asking for assistance!

However, what made Lu Zhonglin speechless was that after his telegram was sent to the Military Commission, there was no response for a long time. He was really anxious to death!

In fact, it¡¯s not that Chongqing didn¡¯t see his telegram, but after seeing it, it was unable to provide reinforcements, because now the attention of the top leaders of the National Government is firmly attracted by the war situation in Changsha.

The Japanese invasion of Changsha is a strategic mission established by the China Expeditionary Forces Headquarters. The combat order was issued at the end of August, and the scheduled attack time is late September.

Prior to this, the Japanese army also assigned combat tasks to various units. After many battles, and the transportation was damaged and blocked, the Japanese troops were not able to pull the troops to the crooked new wall in Changsha until September 17.  River, and spreads out on a front of about 20 kilometers north of the Xinqiang River.

In this battle, the Japanese army assembled a powerful force of 4 divisions and 5 detachments on the Xinqiang River line alone, with a total of 45 infantry brigades and 322 artillery pieces!

Among them, the 63rd Independent Infantry Brigade of Hirano Giichi took a boat from Yueyang up the Xiangjiang River to Tuishanzui and Yingtian in Xiangyin, south of the Miluo River Estuary, and landed in order to cope with the main force of the enemy and capture the areas on both sides of the lower reaches of the Miluo River.

The main 4th Division and 26th Brigade are located near the south of Xinkaitang, and the 3rd Division is located south of Wujiang Bridge.

The 62nd Infantry Brigade of the 6th Division and the 14th Independent Mixed Brigade Eto Daihachi are located in the area south of Xitang. The 3 infantry brigades of the 40th Division and the 33rd Division are located around Baiyangtian.

The 63rd Independent Infantry Brigade of the 14th Independent Mixed Brigade Hirano Giichi, 1 mountain artillery squadron and the Marine Corps were escorted by the 1st China Repatriation Fleet and took a boat from Yueyang. On the night of September 17, they arrived at the Xiangjiang River in Xiangyin County.  Castle Peak Landing on the west bank.

Facing the aggressive Japanese army, China did not back down and decided to fight with all its strength.

The national army stationed in the Changsha area was Xue Yue's 9th Theater. Since the enemy's attempt to attack Changsha had been detected in advance, in order to prevent the enemy's build-up, General Xue first moved his headquarters directly to Changsha City, and then began to mobilize troops.  .

Xue Yue first assembled some of the main forces and launched an attack on the Japanese troops in Xianning in the northern section of the Guangdong-Hankou Railway and along the highway from Yangxin to Tongshan in the west, in order to disrupt their deployment and destroy their transportation.

At the same time, the defensive forces along the Xinqiang River south of Yueyang will be strengthened to resist the Japanese attack head-on.

In order to resist the enemy's 11th Army's attack on Changsha, the Ninth War Zone deployed the 4th and 58th armies on the first line from the Xinqiang River in front of northern Hunan from west to east to Mufu Mountain; on both sides of the Miluo River on the second line,  The 37th Army was deployed; the 26th Army was deployed between Changsha and Liuyang; the 99th Army was deployed on both sides of the Xiangjiang River on the west side of the main battlefield; the 20th Army was deployed in the mountainous area on the east side of the main battlefield; and the 20th Army was deployed in Jiangxi Province.  The 74th Army in the Yi and Xinyu areas serves as a reserve force.

In tit for tat, the commander of the Japanese 11th Army also moved his headquarters from Wuhan to Yueyang, Hunan. The commander of the corps, Anami Weiji, personally arrived in Yueyang and held a combat meeting there attended by the chiefs of staff of each division to study the situation.  Questions before the attack.

At dawn on September 18, Anan Weiji ordered the troops to start the offensive according to the planned plan, and used the 6th Division in Xitang as the focus of the breakthrough to attack Yanglin Street south of the Xinqiang River.

In order to break through the Xinqianghe River, the Japanese army strengthened their offensive firepower and ordered all units to move at the same time.

After daybreak, Akiyama Toyoji's 1st flight group and Endo Saburo's 3rd flight group took off continuously from Wuchang, Hankou Airport and Bailuoji Airport on the opposite bank to the north of Yueyang, about 20 meters above the Xinqiang River line.Continue the offensive in the narrow quasi-plain area from Pingjiang to the east and Liuyang to the west.

The further the Japanese army advances southward, the longer its eastern mountainous flanks are exposed.  Therefore, after occupying Jinjing, the 40th Division was retained, and after occupying Changsha, the 6th Division was retained to guard the eastern mountainous area.

In the eastern mountainous area, the distance from Pingjiang County in Hunan to Fengxin County in Jiangxi Province to the east is about 175 kilometers.  This area was heavily defended by the 19th Army in the east, the 27th Army in the west, and the 30th Army in the north. Although the enemy had the advantages of aviation, tanks, and artillery units, they did not dare to disperse their forces to attack this continuous mountainous area.

The 58th Army north of the Jiuluo River still controls the road from Yueyang to Changsha. The 20th Army is still attacking the enemy in Changle Street. The 102nd Division of the 4th Army is on guard in the direction of Hongyuan Cave. The main force of the army is located at the mouth of Qingjiang,  Wukou area.

In view of the current enemy situation, Xue Yue used the 15th Division of the 72nd Army of the 30th Group Army to recapture Genggutai. The 74th Army used the 57th Division on the left and the 58th Division to regain Chunhua Mountain. The 57th Division prepared to counterattack Malin City to the north, and the 58th Division headed north.  Counterattack on Lukou She. Now that the 8th Division has arrived in Zhuzhou, we are now preparing to launch a full-line counterattack against the Japanese army.

For this counterattack, both Xue Yue himself and the entire senior military leadership attached great importance to it. A large number of combat troops were continuously transferred to the Changsha area, which was quite similar to the Wuhan battle three years ago.

Under such circumstances, things in the Hebei-Cha War Zone naturally do not attract the attention of the Military Commission, and it is reasonable for them to be ignored!
