While Li Guoyao's troops were busy dispatching troops and generals, the Japanese army also began to attack Luoyang.

As early as mid-April, the 1st Army was preparing to attack Luoyang. Since the Yellow River served as a barrier, the Japanese army had to cross the Yellow River if they wanted to fight south. In order to successfully cross the Yellow River, its river-crossing engineering troops were deployed elsewhere in advance.  River crossing training was conducted.

Afterwards, Major General Horigege Kazumaro, Chief of Staff of the First Army, Lieutenant General Chujiro Miura, Commander of the 69th Division, and Colonel Yamamoto, Chief of Staff of the Division, took reconnaissance aircraft to conduct aerial reconnaissance on the north and south banks of Huangwen at three locations where they were preparing to cross the river.

The first river crossing point selected by the Japanese army was Chengguan Town on the bank of the Yellow River in Yuanqu County, the second river crossing point was Hedi Village upstream of Chengguan Town, and the third river crossing point was Nangou east of Caojiachuan, Pinglu County, upstream of Hedi Village.  area.

The 1st Army is preparing to cross the river from Chengguan Town and Hedi Village to attack Mianchi to the south; and to cross the river from Nangou to attack the Yinghao area to the west of Mianchi to the southeast.

While Horimao, Miura, Yamamoto and others were reconnoitring these three river crossing points about 40 kilometers apart, they also conducted visual reconnaissance and extensive inspections of the mountain roads, villages, bridges, mountain systems, etc. that were attacking Mianchi and Yinghao.  Aerial photography of the area.

After that, a combat plan was formulated based on this and an order was issued to the 69th Division, stipulating that the 59th Brigade, the main force of the division, would cross the Yellow River from Chengguan Town and Hedi Village to capture Mianchi, and the independent mixed 3rd Brigade would cooperate with the operation.  After crossing the Yellow River from Nangou, the regiment captured Yinghao Station.

In order to make the plan consistent with the army's intentions during execution, Horimao sent the army's combat staff Major Narita Takeshi to accompany the 69th Division to strengthen combat guidance.

From the Yellow River to the mountainous area south of Yuanqu, the river width is about 500 meters. In this season, the water surface is about 350 meters wide, and the flow rate is about 3.5 meters per second.  In narrow sections of the river, the flow speed is faster.

Before crossing the river, all preparations were carried out behind the mountains or villages on the north bank and in the woods to prevent being discovered by the Kuomintang¡¯s 47th Army on the south bank.

At noon on May 9, a soldier from the 59th Brigade of the Independent Engineers in Hedi Village went to the well in front of the village to draw water due to the sweltering heat. At this time, the National Army's 47th Army and the Hebei Provincial People's Army were on guard on the other side.  The enemy was discovered immediately and learned that the Japanese army was preparing to cross the river on the north bank of the Yellow River.

Subsequently, the Chinese army carried out continuous shelling on Hedi Village with light and heavy mortars at 15:00 and 18:00 on that day, causing the Japanese troops in this village to suffer heavy casualties. Several iron-hulled boats were destroyed.  Blow up.

At about ten o'clock that night, the 69th Division and its 59th Brigade formed an independent 3rd Brigade from Chengguan Town and Hedi Village and began to secretly sneak across from Nangou. As soon as they entered the middle stream, they were discovered by the defenders and blocked with firepower.  , the Japanese army used fire support to force the crossing. When its leading troops landed and fired signal flares, the enemy transferred its firepower.

The Japanese troops who crossed the Yellow River left some troops to guard the landing point, while others quickly advanced in depth, detouring from both sides to the rear of the defenders, and cooperated with the troops landing frontally to carry out front-to-back pincer attacks on the defenders and occupied the south bank.  In some areas, most of the leading troops of the 69th Division had crossed the Yellow River on May 10 and began to attack and advance.

The 69th Division, which crossed the Yellow River, immediately divided into three groups to attack the Mianchi and Yinghao areas along Longhai Road to the south.

The three infantry brigades crossing from Hedi Village to the east bank of the Yellow River were the middle route, commanded by Kimura Chiyota, and went south through Qingshan, Xigou, and Yangguanggou to attack Mianchi.

The two infantry brigades crossing from Chengguan Town to the south bank of the Yellow River took the left route, passing from Nancun, Qingliangwa, and Dongjian to the south through Xiajian and Xiaguandi, attacking Nanyangou, Jindenghe, and Siping, and advanced to the east of Mianchi.  The Zhanggou and Mengcun first-line areas control the railways and highways east of Mianchi.

The three infantry brigades that crossed the Yellow River from Nangou were on the right, heading southeast from Bailang through Qianling, Nanzhuang, and Suqin Village, and attacked the Yinghao area west of Mianchi.

The national army deployed in the Mianchi area was Li Jiayu¡¯s 36th Group Army and Li Zongfang¡¯s 47th Army.

The enemy's 63rd Division east of Luoyang was ordered to cross the Luo River at Heishiguan on the southwest outskirts of Gong County on the evening of May 10 after a battle.  The 9th Independent Infantry Brigade arrived at Mawa, Niuzhuang, and Yangzhuang north of Yanshi at 22:00 that night, and continued to advance westward, passing through Caizhuang in the East and West. On the night of the 11th, they captured Mengjin County and Lei in the northwest of the city.  He and Youfang Streets, on the 13th, detoured to Changhua north of Luoyang and Bei Ma Dian in the northwest.

By the evening of May 13, the headquarters of the Japanese 62nd Division had entered Shilipu, Youwang, and Sun Villages east of Luoyang, and its artillery units had reached Baima Temple east of Shilipu; Liu Yong's 67th Brigade had arrived  In Lumiao, the northeastern suburbs of Luoyang, the leading brigade entered Panlong Tomb on the 14th; Watian Longgen's 12th Field Replenishment Team entered Shuikou and Zhongtou in the northwest suburbs of Luoyang.

At this point, the Japanese army completed the encirclement of the areas east and north of Luoyang and launched an offensive.Preparation of the city.

At this time, the Japanese 3rd Tank Division and the 110th Division had launched an attack on the area west of Luoyang City, with one unit advancing along the Xin'an Railway to the west. The Liu Kan Corps, which was originally defending there, moved southwest after fighting.  Area evacuated.

When the troops of the Japanese 1st and 12th armies arrived in the areas west and south of Luoyang as scheduled, the North China Front issued an order to attack Luoyang to the 63rd Division directly under it.

Since the four infantry brigades of the 9th Changling Xiyi Independent Infantry Brigade that were originally under the command of the division have been returned to the command of the 1st Army that has just crossed the Yellow River, they braved heavy rain and marched from Beimatun through Hengshui, Shangzhuang,  Xu Wan and Zhengcun arrived in Xin'an.

Therefore, the North China Front assigned 4 additional infantry brigades and part of the artillery to the 63rd Division, namely the 1st Battalion of Major Takeji Inagaki of the 163rd Regiment of the 110th Division, and the 74th Independent Infantry of the 1st Independent Mixed Brigade, Lieutenant Colonel Shimizu Ao  Battalion, the 5th Independent Infantry Battalion of the 2nd Independent Mixed Brigade Moritasha Sano, the 38th Independent Infantry Battalion of Major Kanichiro Eda of the 9th Independent Mixed Brigade, and 1 of the 6th Regiment of the 6th Field Heavy Artillery Brigade  15-mm grenade (15 cm caliber) heavy artillery brigade.

At this time, those defending Luoyang City were the 64th and 65th Divisions of the 15th Army of the National Army Wu Tinglin, defending the northern area of ??Luoyang City; the 94th Division of the 14th Army Zhang Shiguang defended Luoyang City.

The garrison projects in Luoyang area were completed in six years.

In the hilly area north of the Luo River outside the city, in the Shangqing Palace and Ximapo areas, which are about 5 kilometers long from north to south and about 7 kilometers wide from east to west, a relatively complete core defense system of anti-tank trenches and reinforced concrete has been built.  Various fortifications such as bunkers, communication trenches, and tunnels were also built. In the later period, about 70 US military personnel participated in this work.

The North China Front Army paid great attention to defensive preparations for Luoyang, where Jiang Dingwen's 1st Theater Commander's Headquarters is located, and learned a lot about the situation through aerial photography, ground reconnaissance and other means.

The focus of the 63rd Division's attack was first on the positions outside the city of the National Army's 15th Army in the Shangqing Palace and Shijiagou areas in the north of Luoyang City.

The Japanese army first used the 25th, 78th, and 137th independent infantry brigades of Major General Liu Yong's 67th Brigade to attack the Shangqing Palace and the railway line in the southeast from the northwest of Luoyang City to the Licun, Tangcun, and Lijiagou lines.  In nearby areas, the 38th Independent Infantry Battalion of Major Kanichi Eda was used to blockade the eastern area of ??Luoyang City.

The 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Independent Infantry Battalions of Colonel Watian Longgen's Field Supplementary Corps, from Wunuzhong and Dongjiangou in the west of Luoyang, through Shijiatun and Miaojiagou, and attacked Shijiagou and Inagaki Yi in the east in parallel.  Command the Major's 1st Infantry Battalion and blockade the area near the west of Luoyang City.

Lieutenant Commander Qingshui Ang's 74th Independent Infantry Brigade blocked the southern area of ??Luoyang City and both sides of the Luo River, preparing to block the Chinese defenders retreating south from the area.

The Jiangtou Brigade of the 6th Field Heavy Artillery Regiment is located near Xiaotun, about 6 kilometers southwest of Luoyang City.  The Artillery Battalion of Major Katsuro Saga is located in the Zhongtou area, about 8 kilometers northwest of Luoyang City.

The 5th Independent Infantry Brigade of Moritasha Sansano is the division's reserve team. The Japanese army's scheduled attack time is the night of May 18.  (Remember the website address: www.hlnovel.com
