In the North China Front Army Headquarters, after receiving the telegram from Major General Yamagang Budo, Okamura Neiji breathed a sigh of relief, and the depressed expression on his face relaxed a little.

During the day today, the combat staff sent to the Henan battlefield listened to Yoshimoto Teiichi¡¯s report on recent battle conditions and next steps at the temporary headquarters of the First Army, and immediately reported the situation on the front line to the front army headquarters.

Based on the situation reported from the front line, Okamura Neiji realized that the First Army could not evacuate the Lingbao area at the moment.

And more importantly, the First Army Headquarters and the 12th Army Headquarters have considered the plans for the upcoming Battle of Lingbao very carefully, and the response of troops at all levels is extremely sensitive. The chance of winning this battle is very high.

Secondly, the secret service also grasped detailed information about the army in a timely manner. At the beginning of this operation, the frontline troops grasped the dynamics of the national army through intelligence.

The Japanese army knew that the national army in front of them was mainly commanded by officers of the "Huangpu Clan". At this time, the Huangpu Clique was advocating the supremacy of the country and the nation.

They are both anti-Japanese and anti-Japanese. The Japanese army believes that it is not easy to instigate rebellion and obtain intelligence through inside lines among these troops.  Therefore, it is mainly through radio listening and deciphering codes to understand the dynamics of the national army.

When the Japanese army arrived in Changge, the National Army's 1st Theater decided to defend Xuchang on the southern route. Tang Enbo's troops were divided into two groups, the southern and northern groups. The southern group contained the main force of the Japanese army in the Xuchang area from advancing southward.  The Northern Group attacked from Dengfeng to the weak railway line behind enemy lines in Zhengzhou, carrying out flank attacks and follow-up.

The telegram of this plan was deciphered by the Japanese army, and it was known that the main force of the 13th Army in the 1st Theater was located in the Dengfeng area. Therefore, after the enemy had just captured Xuchang, they only sent some troops to move south along the railway to paralyze the defenders, while the main force was  Xuchang turned to the right, blocked the highway from Xuchang to Luoyang via Zheng County and Linru with heavy troops, and surrounded and annihilated Tang Enbo's Northern Group in Dengfeng.

Then the telegram from Chongqing to the 1st Theater Command that it must hold on to Luoyang was also deciphered by the Japanese troops on the front line. So the North China Front Army urgently ordered the 1st Army Stationed in Shanxi to cross the Yellow River in advance from the Yuanqu and Pinglu areas to the south.  Blockade the Mianchi and Xin'an areas west of Luoyang and control the communication between the Luoyang defenders and the west.

Through the above intelligence, the North China Front Army knew that Wu Tinglin's 15th Army had orders to stick to it and would not evacuate Luoyang.  Therefore, the troops on the front line began to adopt a combat method of besieging Luoyang without attacking. Their main force continued to pursue westward, making the Luoyang defenders further away from other troops, and increasing the level of siege of Luoyang. It was not until May 20 that they launched  attack.

But it is a pity that Wu Tinglin, commander of the 15th Army of the Kuomintang, saw through the trick of the Japanese army to set up a death formation west of Luoyang. He made full use of his military wisdom in the critical situation. He first held the Mangshan position in the north of the city to resist and attract the enemy.  During this period, the headquarters was moved to the vicinity of Wenfeng Tower in the southeast corner of the city. When the troops retreated into Luoyang City without suffering much loss of strength, they resolutely broke through in the direction of the weak enemy rear area east of Luoyang. The result was not only  The losses were relatively small, and many of the Japanese army's rear hospitals, military depots, institutions and some small units were destroyed. They once again entered the Dengfeng Mountains, which frustrated the Japanese army's plan to encircle and annihilate the 15th Army.

However, the national troops assembled in the Lingbao area obviously have not yet figured out the situation on the front line. Once the First Army Headquarters acts according to Yoshimoto Teiichi's plan, they are fully capable of defeating the national troops on the front line in a short time and capturing Lingbao.  Bao is the bridgehead into Shaanxi.

The opportunity is rare, but Neji Okamura also has to consider the situation on the Shanxi battlefield. After all, Li Guoyao's tens of thousands of elite soldiers are heading south, and their troops are pointed directly at Xinkou. Once Xinkou is lost, the entire Shanxi battlefield will be completely destroyed. This danger  Okamura Neji didn't dare to take the risk.

But there is a time difference. According to Yoshimoto Teiichi's plan, it will take up to a week to defeat the Chinese army outside Lingbao.

In other words, if the troops at Xinkou can persist for 7 to 10 days, they can wait for the arrival of the first batch of reinforcements, and then the troops on the southern front will continue to withdraw to the Shanxi battlefield.

So the key still depends on the battlefield in Shanxi, or even more accurately, how long the troops on the Xinkou frontline can hold on. Whether to withdraw troops from Henan or not, we have to wait for a word from Major General Shanggang Martial Arts.

And Shanggang Budo did not disappoint Okamura Neiji. He directly stated that a week would be absolutely no problem, and half a month would not be a big problem.

Okamura Neiji immediately agreed with the 1st Army to implement the combat plan in the Lingbao area, and after reporting to Nanjing and Tokyo step by step and getting approval, he sent a telegram to the 1st Army on the evening of May 31 to issue the combat order.  : "Cross the combat restriction line at the right time and conduct operations in the area near Lingbao. The 12th Army will be equipped with two infantry brigades, one mountain artillery brigade, and one field heavy artillery regiment in the short term, attached to the 1st Army. These temporaryThe attached troops will return to their original troops roughly around June 10.  "

After receiving the final combat order from the North China Front, Yoshimoto Tadashi was overjoyed and immediately ordered the 1st Army to attack and deploy in the Lingbao area.

Subsequently, Changling Xiyi's 9th Independent Infantry Brigade took the northern route, heading west from Daying Town via Nanchao, Jiaoling, Shenwo and other places to attack Changjiawan, Nanying and Changyan Village on the railway line;  The independent mixed 3rd brigade commanded by the 69th Division was the middle route, attacking from Xidizhuang and Xiaoxipo to Wangpinghe, Zushimiao, Shendi, Shangwa, Guolue Town (now Lingbao City), and Xizhang in the west.  , Xichangce, Beijia Village, Shangxiamiaodi, and joined the troops of the 9th Independent Infantry Brigade on the North Road in nearby Changyan Village.

Taking the 59th Brigade of the 69th Division as the southern route, from Shishuwa, Hufutou, Xiaozhangjiapo, and Liujiahe, attack Caomiao, Miaogou River, Zhuyuangou, Houxiaomeihe, Qianmengjiahe, and East  Slope and Yangpo area, and then continue westward, passing Wangjiahui and Shizigou, about 10-15 kilometers southeast and due south of Guolue Town, five acres, and crossing the highest nearby Niangniang Mountain to reach Meng Village west of Guolue Town  , Balou and Langzhai, then go north through Yangping Town and Emperor Ridge, and meet up with the troops from the middle and north routes who are attacking the area.

At 18:00 on June 1, Gibbon¡¯s 1st Army Headquarters issued a combat order to its troops from the current defense line to Xiangxiang, 40 kilometers to the west.

When the Japanese 1st Army was preparing for the attack, the temporarily assigned units were the 11th and 14th independent infantry brigades of the 63rd Division of the 12th Army, the 1st Duwenshan Artillery Battalion, the 6th Field Heavy Artillery Regiment, and tanks.  Two tank squadrons from the 3rd Division arrived successively from June 1 to June 3.

Then the mountain artillery brigade was assigned to the 69th Division, and the 6th Field Heavy Artillery Regiment was on standby near the camp.

Okamura saw that the 1st Army only had one division and one brigade, while the National Army had more troops in the two theaters, and controlled the narrow valley on the south bank of the Yellow River from Lingbao to Tongguan. From May 27  By June 2nd, tenacious counterattacks had been launched one after another. After being attacked for several days, the 69th Division's combat effectiveness had been weakened, and it was in a situation of coping. On June 3rd, the 69th Division ordered Hideo Yamaji's 3rd Tank Division by telegram.  Regiment, under the command of the 1st Army.

In addition, in order to prevent a stalemate or setback due to the strong resistance of the defenders after the 1st Army launched an attack, Okamura also ordered Uchiyama Eitaro's 12th Army to locate a force in Luoning and Changshui in the southeast of Shaanxian County.  In the town area, we are always ready to advance from Guandaokou and Nangou north of Lushi to the area south of Lingbao to support the operations of the 1st Army.

On June 4, the Japanese 1st Army Command Post entered Guojiazhuang. Before launching the attack, the two squadrons of the 17th Tank Regiment were ordered to prepare for maneuver near the camp on the night of June 4. On the 5th  Chen Chao overran the 9th Independent Infantry Brigade and advanced toward Xishuitou, about 8 kilometers northeast of Guolue Town, blocking the defenders' retreat and cooperating with the divisions on the southern flank.

At the same time, the 6th Field Heavy Artillery Regiment was ordered to coordinate with the 9th Independent Infantry Brigade in Daying Town to attack Shuitou in the west, and the Battle of Lingbao began.
