Chapter 1145 Darfur

Previous page        Return to Catalog        Next page

¡°Two ruts stretch from Chad¡¯s unmarked border into Darfur and into the conflict in western Sudan.  This is basically the situation in the Sahel. It is not marked on the map and cannot be seen from the ground, but it forms a border.

The scenery on the vast expanse of land is the same. Only the hard soil covered with gravel and withered grass as thin and fragile as blown glass can be seen. The iron-gray horizon is motionless.  However, the road ahead is filled with borders one after another, but most of the time they are invisible.

If you fly over here in an airplane, you will only see boundless wasteland.  But this is just an outsider's illusion.  Various criss-crossing lines divide every rock outcrop and every plain here, demarcating the territories of tribes, individuals and clans, and expand or shrink with the changes of war conditions and seasons.  It is not advisable to stay around any large or small ponds.  There are also invisible lines called "Masar" that determine the migration routes of nomadic tribes.

Everything here is strictly orderly, and just crossing the wrong line or rashly entering someone else's territory may lead to retaliation or even loss of life.

The word Sahel means "shore" in Arabic, alluding to the edge of the continent - the beginning and end of grandeur.

A semi-arid grassland belt separates Arabs and blacks, herdsmen and farmers, and the green world and the vast desert.  Approximately 50 million of the world's poorest, most vulnerable, and least caring people are struggling to survive here.  Lin Rui and others also joined them.

Lin Rui and others were riding in two Toyota trucks and were walking on the road to Fulaviye Village when a group of unidentified armed guerrillas quietly emerged from the grass.

"Stay in the car and don't move." Crazy Horse whispered.

But it was too late.  The gunmen were already swaying around.  The leader was a thin young man with braids all over his head and a black amulet hanging on his chest that looked like dried ears.  These black men looked thin and fierce, like hungry wolves in the wilderness.

Once here, no one cares what passport you have, whether you are young and loved, whether the color of your skin should protect you from bullying, or whether you are not here to fight - none of this matters.  All words failed.

When the smiling black teenager holding a Kalashnikov reaches for their car door, there is usually only one thing that can stop him - the gun.

Lin Rui expressionlessly put a gun on the black boy's head, telling him with the cold muzzle and equally cold eyes that there were a group of people in the car that he couldn't afford to offend.

The black boy surrendered. He was not a fool. He could see where these people were coming from.  Well-equipped weapons, cold eyes and heavy combat uniforms on their bodies.  All indicate the identity of these people.

There¡¯s only one kind of person you shouldn¡¯t mess with in this place, and that¡¯s a strong man with a gun.  If it's a foreigner, you'd better turn around and walk away, as far away from them as possible.  Because these people are basically mercenaries who kill without blinking an eye.

After the group of black teenagers with guns retreated, Lin Rui and others had time to take a good look at the village they arrived at.  It was so dilapidated that it almost looked like an abandoned shack, with khaki floors and equally khaki walls.  The air was filled with a rancid smell like spoiled butter.

When everyone saw Lin Rui and others, their first reaction was to avoid them.

Lin Rui found the elder of the village and gave him two photos, "We are looking for someone."

The elder was somewhat submissive and frightened, and finally managed to say something to them through an interpreter.  Judging from the information they provide.  "Guns" and "Rose" had indeed been here, but only a few days ago.

"The elders said that their situation did not look good at that time. People in this village said that the mercenaries were being hunted. They might have ran westward." Crazy Horse whispered.

"Do you think what they said is credible?" Lin Rui whispered.

"They are local black people, not the same as the Arab nomads. There should be no need for them to lie to us." Crazy Horse whispered, "I guess those two mercenaries were also hired by the local black tribe, otherwise they would not  There will be a conflict with Janjaved¡¯s armed forces.¡±

"Let's go, leave here and look to the west." Lin Rui whispered, "Be careful, don't let these people fool you."

Crazy Horse nodded, beckoned the others to get in the car, and continued to look west for "Guns" and "Rose".

In the desert, the temperature rises sharply at noon, and the sun is like fire.  The o2 team members went all the way west, passing through the rocky river beach. Sergey was observing the surrounding situation from time to time from behind the car.  At this time, the car in front stopped. Crazy Horse looked at the other side and said to Lin Rui: "Further forward, we will reach Jianjiaweidewu."??Controlled area.  Can't we make it?  "

"Let's go!" Lin Rui ordered in a deep voice.  Crazy Horse said nothing and the two cars crossed the line and continued on.

"Everyone, we have entered enemy territory now! Be vigilant. These Janjaved militants are not boy scouts. They have fought hard battles! They are very elite and have been here all year round! This will be a fierce battle.  Understand? It's over!" Lin Rui whispered into the intercom.

"Understood!" the team members replied in a low voice.

The team continued to move forward, but their alertness increased significantly.  The Toyota truck was advancing rapidly, unaware of the hidden danger.  Until there was a faint flash of light from the surrounding grass.  "There's an ambush!" Yelena shouted and fired alertly, and the rest of the team members also started shooting in all directions with guns.

Outside the river beach, a group of armed men heard the gunfire and stopped, holding guns on guard.  Lin Rui held a gun and searched for the target.  Sergey's eyes widened: "Is there really someone? Damn it, they wanted to ambush us, and they almost succeeded!"

"Get ready to fight!" Lin Rui calmly ordered, and the team members held guns and alerted the surroundings.

There were faint screams in the distance, mixed with the continuous gunshots.  Lin Rui frowned and said, "The target is not us, but the people over there. We just broke in by mistake." He immediately ordered: "Maybe they are attacking Guns and Roses, see if we can go around to the side  . Let¡¯s look at the situation clearly before talking.¡±

?????????????The team members quickly jumped out of the car and crossed back at full speed.

On the desert-like mounds, smoke filled the air. The other party seemed to be holding up a gun and shouting: "Fire! Fire!" They were fighting the guerrillas who were rapidly passing through. It was obvious that they had suffered heavy losses. Several wounded people were lying on the ground.  On the ground, their injuries were all serious, and blood kept flowing, staining the yellow sand on the ground red.

"Is it them?" Lin Rui whispered.

"I can't see clearly. How about we take action?" Crazy Horse frowned and said, "They can't stand it for much longer."
