Chapter 4004 Undercurrent

Previous page        Return to Catalog        Next page

After this incident, the Western Sahara government¡¯s trust in Lin Rui and others has greatly increased.

On the one hand, they recognized the many crises within themselves, and on the other hand, they did recognize the efficiency of Lin Rui and others.

At the same time, the situation in Mali and Western Sahara is becoming increasingly tense.  But almost everyone's attention is on Mali, and few are looking to Western Sahara.

Because in everyone¡¯s inherent understanding, the situation in Western Sahara is unlikely to change significantly.  Because the Western Sahara government is too weak and Morocco is too strong.

This situation has not changed in the past, there is no way to change it now, and there will be no bigger changes in the future.

First, the Moroccan government reported to the United Nations that armed members of the Western Sahara Front entered the Western Sahara area controlled by Morocco and violated the ceasefire agreement supervised by the United Nations.

Because Morocco had been fighting for the ownership of Western Sahara with the Western Sahara, which was supported by Algeria, for more than ten years, a ceasefire agreement was reached under the mediation of the United Nations in 1991.

After that, the areas controlled by the two sides were separated by a sand wall. Moroccan-controlled areas accounted for about two-thirds of Western Sahara and were located to the west of the sand wall; the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic established by the Western Sahara Front controlled the remaining areas, located to the east of the sand wall.  .

The United Nations Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara divided areas on both sides of the sand wall, imposed varying degrees of restrictions on military personnel and activities, and monitored the ceasefire.

After investigation, the United Nations responded that no armed personnel activities of the Western Sahara People¡¯s Liberation Front were found in the northeastern part of Western Sahara.

The Moroccan government emphasized to the United Nations Security Council that in recent days, PFLP armed personnel entered the Moroccan-controlled town of Mahbais in the northeastern part of Western Sahara from camps in Algeria, violating the ceasefire agreement.

Omar Hilal, Morocco¡¯s permanent representative to the United Nations, said in a letter submitted to the Security Council that PFLP armed personnel entered Mahbais ¡°in military vehicles¡± and ¡°set up tents, dug trenches and built buildings with sandbags¡± there.

Morocco stated that in accordance with the requirements of the United Nations Secretary-General, Morocco has so far shown restraint and a high sense of responsibility, but will not stand idly by as the situation there worsens.

¡°If the UN Secretary-General and the Security Council are unwilling to stop those provocative actions, Morocco will step in and take action.

Mohamed Haddad, a member of the Western Front in charge of coordinating with the United Nations, denounced the Moroccan side¡¯s statement, saying that the Moroccan side was trying to negate the peace process.

The biggest headache is the United Nations Security Council.  Because according to the situation in Western Sahara and the annual report of MINURSO, in the past year, the Moroccan army violated the ceasefire agreement 5 times and the FPSO violated the ceasefire agreement 7 times.

This is tantamount to everyone violating the ceasefire agreement, but repeatedly accusing the other party of violating the ceasefire agreement.

Morocco pointed out that the PFLP had established a monitoring point in the Guerguerat area; the United Nations proposed sending experts to Guerguerat, but the Moroccan side rejected it.

This made the relevant officials of the Security Council extremely angry, but they still had to smile and patiently appeal to both parties to exercise restraint.

Ernest of the Western Sahara Popular Front came to Lin Rui in a hurry and told Lin Rui about the incident.

"I have heard about this matter. But it seems to be caused by the fact that you established a monitoring point in the Galguerat area." Lin Rui nodded.

"This is something that has no shadow at all. We have not set up any monitoring points in that area, and our people are not active in that area." Mr. Ernest shook his head.

"You didn't do it? This is a bit interesting." Lin Rui thought for a while and took out the map.

"Guerguerat is located in this location, in the southern part of Western Sahara, in the buffer zone between the Moroccan Sand Dune Defense Wall and the Mauritanian border." Lin Rui pondered, "The geographical location is special. No wonder Morocco is so nervous."

Mr. Ernest sighed and said, ¡°Actually, the situation in the area near Guerguerat has been tense. The local Moroccan armed forces have been in a state of confrontation with the armed personnel of our Western Sahara People¡¯s Liberation Front.

Although Moroccan and Western Saharan Front forces have withdrawn from the Guerguerat region in the past few years, tensions have not been truly alleviated.  Morocco has made a fuss about this region from time to time, accusing us of violating the ceasefire agreement.  "

¡°I¡¯m afraid it¡¯s not as simple as their unilateral accusation. Since Morocco can sue the United Nations, it means that they have definite evidence that someone has indeed built a monitoring point there.

It¡¯s just that this monitoring point may have nothing to do with you.  Or some people use your name to do so.??.  Lin Rui nodded.

"You mean, these might have been done by local armed people?" Ernest whispered, "What do they want to do by setting up a monitoring point in such a sensitive place?"

"The answer is obvious. Scout the terrain and observe the military dynamics on the opposite side. Collect various data and use it for combat operations." Jiang An replied, "It seems that our opponent can no longer hold back and is ready to take action."

"Don't draw conclusions too early." Lin Rui shook his head, "Send an intelligence team to investigate. Not only Galgerat, but also here, here and here" Lin Rui drew on the map one after another  with multiple dots.

"All the places I marked must be checked, and they must be checked carefully." Lin Rui looked at Jiang An and said, "If the other party wants to set up a monitoring point, it won't be in just one area. It's very possible  Monitoring points are set up at multiple locations along the border."

"These locations on the map belong to different local armed control, so how do you know that they will set up monitoring points at these locations on the map?" Mr. Ernister frowned.

Lin Rui put away his pen, "I don't know. But the locations I marked are all relatively important areas in the military. If you want to launch an offensive, these locations are very important.

Let our intelligence team go check it out.  If there are new monitoring points set up at these locations, it means"

"What does it mean?" Mr. Ernest said nervously.

"It means we will encounter the worst situation. First of all, this is very likely to be a prelude to an attack. Secondly, these local armed forces you think are no longer scattered. Someone has completely organized them and acted in a unified manner.  .

As long as they are willing and all conditions are met, they will launch an offensive against Morocco in the near future.  And this is without you knowing anything about it.  Lin Rui whispered.

"Probably not." Mr. Ernest's face looked a little unnatural.

    ""
