"Do you really think we have no hope?" Ernest said when he saw Lin Rui.

"It's not just me who thinks so. Even you and the generals under you don't believe that you can confront the Moroccan army head-on." Lin Rui replied, "It's just because of face that I can't say that.

But you didn¡¯t hire us so that I could give you face.  Instead, let me help you get out of trouble and get the best possible outcome.  Lin Rui replied.

"Okay, I can try to convince everyone to let you have full command authority. But there will still be one of our personnel who will nominally act as the commander." Ernest finally made up his mind.

"This is the best, because we have no time to waste. To win this battle, we need to make a lot of preparations. There are a lot of additional preparations, and we should start them in time." Lin Rui replied.

    Ennist nodded in agreement.

In the early morning of September 27, two mechanized brigades and two independent armored battalions of the Moroccan army launched a rapid raid along the predetermined route.

As the actuary expected, in order to get rid of Algeria's influence as much as possible, the Moroccan troops avoided the border with Algeria.

For this reason, the Moroccans also paid a certain price. They established supply points in two relatively remote areas to ensure the fuel and supplies of the combat teams.

And the Air Force was dispatched for reconnaissance, with a formation of 4 American F16black52+ fighter jets serving as reconnaissance.

This type of fighter has greatly improved performance compared to other models in the family.  Mainly reflected in the replacement of HP's new aeroengine with increased thrust, improved cockpit interface, improved fire control radar and avionics, and increased variety of mounted weapons.

Equipped with anti-radar and enhanced JDAM throwing capabilities, this type of fighter jet entered service with the US military only in 1993.  It can be said that it is currently one of the most advanced fighters in Africa.

The armored troops did not stop waiting, but collected the signals sent by the fighter planes while marching at high speed.  The information sent back by the F16 fighter jets showed that they had discovered the base of the Popular Front of Western Sahara and were conducting close reconnaissance around the base.

While they were talking on the phone, suddenly there was an exclamation from the fighter pilot, "Damn, they are attacking us. It's ZSU-23-4! There's more than one, there are several."

This kind of zsu-23-4 anti-aircraft gun was developed by the former Soviet Union in the 1960s and has been in actual combat for many years, although it has been around for more than fifty years.  But it is still the most effective anti-aircraft gun truck and the biggest nightmare for pilots.

zsu-23-4 anti-aircraft gun truck.  Zsu means anti-aircraft self-propelled artillery, 23 means the gun has a caliber of 23 mm, and 4 refers to the 4-barreled gun.

This anti-aircraft gun truck is equipped with four 23mm cannons with a rate of fire of 850 to 1,000 times per minute.  The most effective distance is within 2.5 kilometers.  Once close to this range, it is almost impossible for planes and helicopters to escape.

This kind of anti-aircraft vehicle has participated in actual combat in the Middle East, Africa, Vietnam, Afghanistan and other places.  During the Six-Day War and the War of Atonement, even if the Israeli Air Force was indeed well-trained, it was extremely troublesome to face this kind of ZSU-23-4 anti-aircraft vehicle position.

Because this thing is equipped with a J-band radar, it can detect aircraft within a flying altitude of 20 kilometers, and the shooting control is quite simple.  In the latest version, with a new CNC system, laser ranging range and infrared thermal imaging camera, the detection performance is even more improved.

In order to avoid the range of the zsu-23-4, one can only drop bombs from high altitude, but this can easily expose one's whereabouts and become the target of anti-aircraft missiles.

Originally, the Moroccan Air Force thought that the Western Sahara troops would hardly pose a threat to them, but they did not expect that the Western Sahara troops actually ambush an anti-aircraft artillery position in advance.

Forced several F16s to raise their altitude to avoid intensive anti-aircraft fire from below.  But they overlooked one thing, that is, this type of zsu-23-4 anti-aircraft gun is usually not used alone, but in conjunction with other anti-aircraft weapons.

The People's Front of Western Sahara is quite poorly armed, but this does not prevent them from obtaining the former Soviet Union's S125 air defense missiles, which are commonly known as SA-3 air defense missiles.

? An all-weather short-range surface-to-air missile used to intercept medium and low-altitude aircraft.  It is also a piece of equipment from the 1960s, using four missile launchers.  A SA-3 missile battalion is equipped with 4 such launchers.  In this way, up to 16 missiles can be launched at a time.

Using fragmentation killing method, the number of fragments can reach 3670 pieces, and 4 missiles fired in salvo can form more than 15,000 pieces of fragments.

It is this kind of anti-aircraft missile from the 1960s, but it has a glorious experience that is difficult to erase.

During the Kosovo War in 1999, the Yugoslav Allied Air Defense Force used this missile to shoot down the USSThe world's most advanced US military F117 stealth bomber.  Thus breaking the myth that stealth fighters cannot be shot down.

Because of their equipment advantages, the Moroccan troops have conducted reconnaissance in this area many times before, and there was no response from Western Sahara.  In this way, they are a little careless, and the Western Sahara military is indeed too backward.

This is not the first time that the Moroccan Air Force has performed a mission without opening an air corridor.  Pilots are also used to it.  Unexpectedly, we were attacked by anti-aircraft artillery while lowering our altitude for reconnaissance.

This forced the pilots to immediately increase the flight altitude, but just a few seconds later the fighter plane's radar suddenly sounded, and the pilot shouted desperately, "It's a missile, we are locked by a missile."

In the subsequent loud noise, an F16 fighter plane completely lost contact.  The Moroccan military commander who was listening to the report at the headquarters was also startled by the sudden loud noise. He picked up the communication headset and said loudly, "Report the situation. No. 003, I want you to report the situation."

About a few seconds later, another pilot's communication came, "No. 003 has been shot down, and the pilot completed the ejection escape before being shot down. In addition, No. 001 was hit by anti-aircraft artillery, and we are making an emergency return. Repeat what we are doing  Return¡¡±

"Damn, they shot down an F16." The Moroccan commander looked a little depressed.

¡°Sir, judging from the current intelligence, they are not only equipped with a large number of anti-aircraft artillery, but also equipped with certain medium and short-range anti-aircraft missiles.

"This was not mentioned in our previous intelligence" an officer whispered beside him.

¡°They have an anti-aircraft artillery battalion. Sam-3 missiles are now quite cheap and easy to get. This has nothing to do with intelligence. It¡¯s because we underestimated the enemy.

But this also gave us a signal that there is probably the enemy's general headquarters.  Otherwise they wouldn't have that many anti-aircraft weapons.

We lost an F16, but most likely we caught a big fish.  Since this enemy command headquarters is so important, it is very likely that they are responsible for the deployment of all Western Sahara troops.  "The Moroccan commander looked grim.
