"The Tao Te Ching" is divided into the first part "Tao Jing" and the second part "De Jing". The full text is more than 5,000 words and has a total of 81 chapters, which is a total of ninety-nine chapters.  One sentence from this scripture can be used to explain Zhao Ran¡¯s perception of reading the book - it¡¯s as mysterious as it is mysterious!  The so-called small talk of great meaning is by no means empty talk.

Every sentence can express many levels of meaning, and it can express many meanings when connected before and after, and when combined with the context, it can lead to different understandings.  Before Zhao Ran traveled through time, he only saw excitement. After traveling through time, he came to this world and wanted to see the secrets, but it was not that simple.

To give the simplest example, Zhao Ran looked at a familiar sentence - the heaven and the earth are unkind, and treat everything as a weak dog; the saint is unkind, and treats the common people as a weak dog.  According to the literal interpretation, it means that the heaven and the earth have no heart of benevolence and regard all things as rudderless dogs; the saints should not have a heart of benevolence and treat the common people as rudderless dogs.

Contact below -between heaven and earth, it is still good!  Virtual and unyielding, moving and out.  It is better to keep the center than to talk too much.  What it wants to express seems to be that the rules of Taoism are cold, indifferent, empty, and devoid of any emotions or bonds. If you want to touch its laws, you must also uphold the heart of nothingness - the world is like a big bag.  , it is empty but will not collapse, but it is in motion but endless. The more you talk, the less you can express. Therefore, "it is better to stay in the middle" - it is better to stay empty and cope with all changes.

Just a few words, the more I think about them, the more I feel there is an aftertaste behind them, and the more I think about them, the more profound they become.  Before Zhao Ran traveled through time, he had read many novels describing Taoism. He often quoted this sentence, and then angrily asked the protagonist to use his cruel tricks, or thought it was the protagonist's declaration to fight against the sky.  In fact, it is ridiculous. Whether you retaliate angrily or choose to fight against God, it goes against the original meaning of this sentence - the best way to seek the truth is to stay in the emptiness and not care about it. The so-called "don't be happy with things"  "He who doesn't feel sorry for himself".

This sentence should be the annotation of "The Supreme Being Forgets Love", right?  Zhao Ran was not sure either. He suddenly thought of Buddhist thought again. Isn't this the source of "emptiness"?  No wonder Taoist priests have always criticized Buddhism as Taoism's rebellion

Zhao Ran¡¯s head was spinning thinking about it, and he felt dizzy and his eyesight turned black.  He didn't dare to think about it further, so he let out a long breath and forced himself to look at the "Tao Te Ching" with a simple mind - well, just think of it as reciting famous sentences, or as an exam syllabus for future generations, which would be easier.

After reciting the previous ten chapters, Zhao Ran encountered a difficulty.  Each chapter contains just a few sentences, so memorizing them is not a problem. However, it is very difficult to follow the entire chapter fluently, because these verses look more like aphorisms casually spoken by old people.  Talk about whatever comes to mind, say whatever comes to mind, each chapter is separated, and there is no clue in the chaos.

But if you really want to think so, it is not the case, because every subsequent sentence will be more and more difficult to understand if there is no previous sentence as a foreshadowing.

Well, Zhao Ran admitted that the first time he seriously studied the Tao Te Ching, he suffered a setback and was completely defeated. There was nothing left in his mind except a pile of mush.

In the next few days, Zhao Ran went to the library to read every night, and the result was desolate.  I clearly thought I understood a lot of the content and memorized it, but I just didn¡¯t dare to ponder the deeper meaning. After thinking clearly about one level, it will definitely lead to the next deeper level, and then I will continue to think about it. Every time I am surprised,  I almost vomited blood thinking about it.

After several days in a row, Zhao Ran couldn't stand it any longer and went to Yu Zhiyuan for advice.  When he confided his experience in great distress and cited several problems he had encountered, Yu Zhiyuan looked at him for a long time with a strange expression on his face and asked: "Did you figure these out yourself?"

Zhao Ran smiled bitterly: "What if I didn't figure it out myself? No one pointed me out"

Yu Zhiyuan was silent for a long time, then he cupped his hands and said: "My brother is a great talent, I am not as good as him!"

Zhao Ran didn't know that because of his vision from another world, his understanding of scriptures was already very deep and broad in this world. The issues he considered were difficult for even a talented Taoist priest like Yu Zhiyuan to understand.  Never thought about it.  For example, where does the origin of the universe come from?  What is the relationship between time and space?  How many people in this world have read similar popular science articles?

But Yu Zhiyuan also has his own strengths. His advantage over Zhao Ran lies in his single-minded belief.  He quickly put aside the "messy" ideas that Zhao Ran had poured into his ears, and pointed out to Zhao Ran: "It is not the right way to read the Tao Te Ching without reading the Xiang'er Commentary." - You boy  If you read the scriptures but not the annotations, what is the point?

¡°Okay, Zhao Ran patted his forehead. This was really an oversight.  The simplest common sense of people in this world is not so natural to Zhao Ran. It is not surprising that he ignored it.

"Laozi Xiang'er Commentary" is written by the founder of Taoism - Zhang ?It is written by the Master. It would be unbelievable to enter Taoism without reading "Xiang'er Commentary".  But Zhao Ran is a time traveler. To put it bluntly, he lacks awe of Zhang Tianshi in his heart, so he can't blame him if he can't remember it.

So, Zhao Ran began to read "Lao Zi Xiang Er Zhu" again.

"Lao Zi Xiang Er Zhu" is Zhang Tianshi's explanation of the old man's "Quotations". Each sentence is annotated so that people can understand what the old man wants to say.  Zhao Ran looked through it roughly and soon got something.

Regarding the "Tao Te Ching", ten thousand people have ten thousand interpretations, so which one is the correct interpretation?  Obviously, Zhang Tianshi believed that his understanding was closest to the old man's original intention.

??Simply put, Zhang Tianshi proposed that to abide by the Tao, one must not only abide by the Taoist heart, but also abide by the Tao precepts, that is, conform to the way of heaven in terms of behavioral norms. Zhao Ran believes that this is the basis for Zhang Tianshi to establish the Taoist sect.  Without the Taoist precepts to maintain the upper and lower levels, there would be no Taoist sect. The Taoist sect is an organization, and cultivating the Tao is just a means. Cultivating the Tao may go back infinitely, but the birth of the Taoist sect began with Zhang Tianshi.

With a Taoist sect and people joining this organization, you have to come up with some sweeteners, right?  Zhang Tianshi borrowed the words of an old man in "Xiang Er Zhu" to explain the method of immortality, that is, the method of cultivating Taoism. This is the most important way for Taoism to pass on the mantle.  But Zhao Ran felt that the Tao Te Ching was about tracing the origin of Tao, and it would be very awkward to forcibly link it to the method of immortality.

For example, the old man has already said that Tao is nothingness, there is no distinction between good and bad, and there is no thought of good or evil.  However, Zhang Tianshi commented that "Tao is designed to reward good in life, and it is designed to threaten evil in death", and also said that "immortals are afraid of death, believe in Tao and be honest, so they are in harmony with life." Then Zhao Ran can't help but ask, what is the relationship between reward and punishment?  There must be likes and dislikes. Doesn¡¯t this mean that the way of heaven has thoughts?  Isn¡¯t it contradictory to what the old man said?  Therefore, Zhao Ran's understanding is that the "Tao De Zhen" is a work to understand the way of heaven. Perhaps if you practice to the deepest level, you can understand the method of ascension from it, but it belongs to the highest level category and is by no means accessible to ordinary monks.  of.

In addition to the method of immortality, Zhang Tianshi also talked about what ordinary people should do.  After all, there are only a minority of people who have the qualifications and talents to participate in religious practice. What about the remaining majority?  Zhang Tianshi continued to explain the rules of secular governance by interpreting the old man's words, what the king should do, what the officials should do, and what the people should do.  That is to say, "If the king who governs the country cultivates virtues, and his loyal ministers support him in practicing the Tao, and the Tao spreads virtues, there will be peace, and the officials and the people will be respectful, then it will be easy to govern!"

?????????????????????????????????????????? out of the world, the Taoist sect established the rules for the operation of the secular royal court, and supervised it with the jungles of the ten directions, and used the four directions of heaven and earth as tribute to help those who have the Tao to ascend.

Zhao Ran is not afraid to speculate with the greatest malice that perhaps as far as the Taoist sect in the world is concerned, the "Tao De Zhen" is not the most important classic. The real core classic should be "Xianger Zhu".  From his point of view, Zhang Tianshi's annotations to the old man were purely religious. It was precisely because he unified all the world's understandings from a religious perspective that Taoism existed.

Well, random thoughts are just random thoughts. Zhao Ran has penetrated deeply into the Taoist sect, so he must integrate into this ideological system. Even if he disagrees deep down, he must continue to write superficial articles well, just as if he is reading the test questions and standard answers of this life.  .

Starting from reading "Xiang'er Notes", Zhao Ran finally started to get started.
